MONDAY JUNE 2, 2008
¡Olé!
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the one Andalusian thing that's been taken to heart here in Catalunya is the flamenco - one of the few times you’ll see our Southern cousins working up a sweat from physical exercise.

Of course, when your own national dance consists of bouncing in a circle, anybody would embrace the passion and fervour of flamenco. Still, there's no denying that there are plenty of options for a spot of cante, toque and flourished skirt-swirling around town.

The De Cajón Flamenco Festival has taken up the baton after the excellent Flamenco de Nou Barris and Ciutat Vella festivals, but these auditorium-style performances can often be a little dull and formal. Instead, you’ll find us at La [2]’s Flamenco Ob-Sessions Monday nighters.

These intimate, laid-back sessions are back for a second summer season, offering a more modern spin on the genre in an informal setting, with improvisation and showcases of newcomers. Grab a drink and get comfortable.

Flamenco Ob-Sessions – 21h every Mon through Sep
La [2] de Apolo, Nou de la Rambla 113, Parallel - EUR 12
De Cajón Flamenco Festival - until July 6

Lykke Li

What's Not to Lykke
Swedish singer Lykke Li is being hailed as Scandinavia’s answer to Feist. She certainly has the correct credentials.

Spot: Lykke

Track of the Week: Lykke Li "I'm Good, I'm Gone" is a dreamy, Rhodes-driven epic which is already sounding like one of the remixes of the year.

Le Roi Est Mort It always takes a few years for a decade to die. 1992 may as well have been called '1989 part 3', for all its originality. But come now: it's 2008 already.
