Presenting used to be very similar to singing: People who had the skill would eagerly stand up and dazzle people with their talent, while the rest of us would keep mums and try not to attract any attention for fear of being picked. |
|
Then
PowerPoint came along - you know, the software that,
in theory, allows anybody to easily make fancy-looking
slides - and the torture began. Text flying in from
the right, bullet points full of soul-sapping 'key'
phrases like 'synergize' and 'leverage' coming in from
the left. All while every single word on every single
slide was being read out.
Creativity-kill, somebody in Tokyo must have thought, as what came next - the Pecha Kucha, aka chit chat - was a much slighter beast. With Pecha Kucha, 20 slides are presented, with just 20 seconds for each. Creatives, intellectuals and other good folk come together to present, exchange ideas and, um, drink.. |
|
The concept has triumphed from Amsterdam to Auckland and now hits Barcelona tomorrow. It's food for the brain, they say. But remember, you are what you eat. Listen with care.
Pecha
Kucha - 20:00h Friday July 11
