Go Slow |

'Fast Good' says Ferran Adrià's sarnie shop in big, bright letters. Sure, 'slow' can be the leisurely pace of a, say, sloth. And even limited intelligence. But it's always helpful to have Ferran spell it out for the monosyllabic Cro-Magnons out there: Slow = bad. |
|
And yet, it took me only a millisecond to realise that I don't necessarily agree, when I was nearly mowed down by a Bicing, last seen zipping down Balmes as fast as his wobbly seat and the thrashing chain would permit.
Which brings me to: The Slow Bicycle Movement. Similar in some ways to the other Slow Movement initiatives for Slow Food and Slow Retail, this one calls for savouring each blessed moment on the pedal. Signing its manifesto should be mandatory for getting your Bicing card. |
|
Getting back to Ferran. Just this weekend I was on an Iberia flight that was peddling his EUR 8 'Fast Good' sandwiches. Best before date: six days later. Seems we differ on the very definition of 'fast' and 'good', too.
