It
was last year that Entrepreneur.com added gay bars to
the ranks of piggy banks, pay phones and record stores
as an
endangered species. The gay bar, they said, was likely
to be extinct within a decade. Appropriately, the latest
one in town is called Museum. |
|
To
the cynical lot out there, no, we’re not talking
about good old Punto
(granted, the collection of walking, talking pre-war
artifacts sitting at its bar is impressive).
Museum is the latest project from the owners of the
two Cangrejos; a new café-by-day, bar-at-night
space.
Housed in what was previously karaoke bar La Cama,
the place has received the trademark Cangrejo-kitsch
makeover, this time with more than a nod to the Louis
XV Rococo-style and a generous sprinkling of reproductions
of the old masters (think Goya, not Herb Ritt’s
sweaty shirtless hunk with two tires). OTT? Definitely,
but careless fun, too.

|
So
rather than getting your pens out and writing
the WWF, go and help inject a bit of life into
the gay scene. But Orgullo 2008 in Madrid was
as big as ever, you might say. Well, Madrid has
always been a bit behind the curve.
