Little Pizzazz |

| Pizza
is one of the things that everybody seems to have an opinion
on. Claiming that you've had the best butifarra
ever will only cause people to nod politely, whilst secretly
thinking about lewd innuendos. But say best pizza ever,
and soon you've got a whole discussion going. |

Me,
I'm easy - dialling in a pizza or throwing one of Casa
Tarradellas' finest in the oven isn't too shabby for
me, though I'm hardly immune to the praises of, say,
La Veronica in Raval or Pizza
and Love in Sant Pere. So I was mildly intrigued
about pizza world champion Fabián Martín's
new parlour in Calle Loreto.
What, “pizza world champion”? Yes, just
like they have world championships for swimming, hotdog
eating and toe wrestling, there's one for pizza making.
Fabián won it last year, clinching gold with,
what else, his Gold Pizza complete with edible gold.
Which should have come in handy now that he's now dropped
close to half a million euros to set up (an admittedly
very pretty) shop.

That's
a lot of dough (pardon the pun), especially as
his wafer-thin pizza marvels sell for a very reasonable
ten euros a pop. But to sample the Gold Pizza
or the 100 euro Cocacola pizza with white truffle,
you'll have to hold out for a few more months
until his Taller opens next door.
