When
I grew up, the only openly gay boys would be the lost
causes with lisps as strong as their wrists were limp.
The rest of us would just suck at football and feign
crushes on girls reasonably certain not to reciprocate. |
|
Today,
though, they seem to hatch at the age of six, self-confident
and a with fashion sense that took us years of shopping
to acquire. Oh, how we once laughed at how all the straight
men would grow bellies. Now, it seems, we're the
joke.
But just how did that happen? Maybe it's because they
have better parties. Like the stereotype-defying SomosLas,
which has quietly grown to be the night of reference
for club kids.
Younger than the fashion crowd at Club
Tropicana and more sexually ambiguous than MaricaPop,
they've added live acts and the odd screening before
the dancing gets going. Pretty good fun, in other words,
if you can stand the heat.

"D&G
bitches", some skinny emo snickered, nodding
towards our generation. The younger kides may
have left us looking as dated as highlights, but
kiddo, you just wait for the next retro revival.
