Situated 65 miles from Geneva, Chamonix is a favourite ski destination for off pisters and extremists alike. With Mont Blanc, the highest mountain west of Russia, gazing over it, Chamonix attracts thrill seekers interested in all types of winter sports and is (oddly for a mountain town) busier in the summer than winter. Off piste there are enough restaurants and bars to keep even those who don't indulge in mountain action happy, and the town is filled with character and charm. It's easy to see why this resort is an alpine favourite. Chamonix has 11 separate ski areas covered on its lift pass, so there's no lack of choice here!
