La Granja is a converted farmhouse with 10 rooms, all decorated in sleek charcoal and black. The communal dining area is bordered by a large pool, a bar built around a tree with fairy lights, and several hectares of farmland, which supply nearly 30 percent of the food in the kitchen (and nearly all of the fruit and vegetables). There’s no menu, but reservations are a must: simply call the day before and they’ll ask if you have a preference for meat, fish or veggie. This is a great place if you fancy a family-style meal – without having to do any of the prep work yourself.

Top Tip:
It can be hard to find La Granja, and the road leading to the hotel feels like a disused, private camino – but that’s part of the charm. Oh, and if you want a taxi, bring a number. Everyone was in bed last time we were trying to get home!
