UJ Ibiza: JuLY 2013 |
After our DJ Lab with NikeFuel and Kaz, one thing was for sure: it was time to go back to Ibiza. Fresh off a weekend to check out Idris @ Pikes and Booom!, we're happy to confirm things are well under way on the white isle. We arrived at 2am Friday – perfect timing as Pikes was heaving with an eclectic selection of Ibiza's finest, with DRIIS rocking the decks in Freddie's. The music went 'til 6 in the morning (at least); there was a bit of old Ibiza in the air.
The Booom! launch (previously Bomba, for those who missed that) moved from Saturday to Monday, which made us wonder if it would actually happen, but it did! The verdict? Stellar soundsystem, great size and layout, and again, the island's most well-known faces out to support the ex-Pacha gang. Side note: ditch the flip flops if you want to get in: this is a Cipriani-backed club, after all. We also went to Solomun and Tensnake at Pacha and had one of the best nights we've had in years. We even made it into the DJ booth, thanks to Ralph Moore! #UJgroupies.
We headed over to Formentera to check out Beso Beach Club – we liked the music, food, and décor, but missed the sea views as per Illetas (El Pirata and Juan y Andrea). Over the weekend, we were also finally able to grab a couple of minutes with George Lamb, co-owner of Ibiza's most hyped new restaurant this season, Sacca, and it seems set to open on July 24. And tomorrow: a free (!!!) party at Destino Ibiza with ART DEPARTMENT, Guy Gerber and Tensnake.
On a last note, word just in is that Paris Hilton has a residency at Amnesia's foam party on Wednesdays, from July 31 to August 21. And it was all going so well…

BOOOM! |
New Ibiza town club finally opens
So it's had name changes (from Bomba to Booom!) and delays, but it's open and has released a strong summer line-up. Highlights include Luciano's Vagabundos (ex-Pacha Sunday), Yousef's Circus (a lot of hype about this one this year) and Defected in the House (ex-Pacha Saturday).

CAN LLUC FEASTS |
Monthly supperclub in San Rafael |
Celebrating its 10th anniversary as a rural boutique hotel and villa (though make no mistake, the estate has been in owner Lucas Prats' family for hundreds of years), Ibicencan hotel Can Lluc is marking the occasion with a series of monthly feasts. On the menu? Bullit de peix and arroz a banda, or fish stew and rice (served in two stages, as tradition dictates), fideua, sobrasada, and sweets such as ensaimadas and flaò, a wood-fired oven-baked tart made with young goat's cheese and flavoured with cinnamon, peppermint, and aniseed. Buen provecho! |

GROUCHO SAVE THE DATE |
This is one party you won't want to miss
The Teenage Cancer Trust's party at Groucho's Sa Talaia pop up was one of the highlights of last summer, and now that they have a season under their belt, this year's more intimate Groucho experience—at a finca in the north of the island—is going to be even better. Jaime Winstone and Liz Mendez are hosting their annual pool party on August 22, with Hawksmoor chef Richard Turner and food columnist Gizzi Erskine cooking up a special Club BBQ, while DJs Silvio Pancini and DJ Antz work the decks.

SOMEWHERE IN FORMENTERA |
Dinner and dancing with Carl Craig
With its inaugural party earlier this week, Carl Craig has launched a series of monthly events in Formentera based on a simple premise: quality food, quality location, good music and good vibes. Start with a late Spanish dinner (9pm, naturally) then chill or dance the night away to sets by Cassy, Mirko Loko and, of course, Carl Craig.

RALPH'S ROUNDUP – THE IBIZA 2013 LOWDOWN |
Our man about town and all-round music sage gives us his roundup of Ibiza so far
July and August in Ibiza is no joke. The sun and the lasers are set to stun, the dance floors are busier than at any other point in the season, and everyone is in the mood to party from dusk 'til dawn – and then repeat all over again for the next six nights (if indeed there's even an acknowledgement of either sunset or sunrise). At Pacha, the nights have all moved up a gear, with Friday (Insane) and Sunday (Solomun +1) particularly hitting a nerve with clubbers and table-tapping VIPs alike. Looking every inch the perfect replacement for Luciano, Solomun's mix of Kompakt-style house and vocal disco is a match made in heaven. Add must-see residencies from Richie Hawtin, Paradise, Carl Cox and Sasha at the newly opened Ushuaïa Tower and you have what is surely the busiest summer the island has ever seen. Only one question remains: which parties will emerge triumphant come September, and which nights will disappear to Las Vegas like Tiesto?
1. ENTER at Space
The 2013 line-ups for Hawtin's ENTER party are off the scale this year, with guests including Damian Lazarus and Maya Jane Coles. ENTER.Main (Discoteca) on August 1 features Richie Hawtin, Damian Lazarus and Gaiser (Live) with ENTER.Terrace (Terraza) – Visionquest Thirteen Special featuring Seth Troxler, Lee Curtiss, Shaun Reeves, Ryan Crosson and Magda. Phew!
2. BOOOM!
We're genuinely happy that Danny Whittle's team was able to get this one off the ground – and there are many new nights to choose from! Circus on August 1 features Yousef, Nick Curly, Miguel Campbell and Tom Crane b2b Pete Zorba. See you on the freshly polished dance floor.
3. We Love at Space
Arguably their second biggest night of 2013 after Disclosure, We Love on August 4 features Scuba, Derrick Carter, DJ Ralf, Underworld (Live), James Zabiela, Ben UFO vs Paul Woolford, Benji B and Midland. Brilliant.
4. ANTS at Ushuaïa
The surprise hit of summer 2013, their Reboot-headlined party two weeks back was brilliant fun, and on August 3 features Joris Voorn, Deetron, Betoko and SIOPIS.
5. Hypercolour at Sankeys
Genuinely diverse and exciting all season long! On August 5, they have Maya Jane Coles, Huxley, Alex Jones and Cedric Maison… and it won't cost the earth to get in.
6. Paradise at DC10
Paradise is just getting started, and on August 7, their party features Richie Hawtin, Jamie Jones, Michael Mayer, Craig Richards, George FitzGerald, Silvie Loto, Richy Ahmed and Russ Yallop. That's no joke! And great value for one club line-up.
7. Music On at Amnesia
Marco Carola continues to do the business with August 9 featuring Marco Carola and Marc Antona in the main room, with Stacey Pullen and Monika Kruse on the terrace.
8. Clandestin at Space
On August 23, the Terraza features an energized Felix Da Housecat with his first-ever Ibiza residency plus A-Trak and a DJ set from the on-point mix master known as Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. A new party to watch on Friday nights.
9. Le Grand Bazaar
It's going to be pretty hard to beat Pharrell Williams, but Le Grand Bazaar has Pete Tong on August 23 and a seemingly rejuvenated Luciano – for one night only.
10. Zoo Project
One for the younger crowd, The Zoo Project on August 24 features Spencer Parker, Terry Francis (Funk & Soul Set), Lando Kal, Samuel Deep and Evan Baggs. Please note: party starts at 4:30PM!
Top 3
1. Ten Walls – Gotham
From Sasha to Pacha, the Innervisions anthem of the summer
2. Paul Woolford – Untitled
Released on Hot Flush, this is Woolford's biggest look since Erotic Discourse
3. Breach – Jack
Pump Up The Jam hotwired for 2013 floors, if you will |
