Another year, another IMS/openings combo. This was our 8th year attending IMS, and their 10th anniversary — and the schedule didn’t disappoint. Four days of talks, dinners, parties and beach breaks. IMS we love you. Being based at the five-star OD Talamanca was a life-saver too: great location, breakfast served ‘til 12, amazing staff, sea views, pool dips, and late night talks in their chill out zone. Here are some of our highlights from the week.

|
| IMS Highlights | | What a whirlwind! | | | | Let’s start with the work bits. Highlights included talks with The Black Madonna who enlightened us about raving in Kentucky back in the day (yikes!) and made budding DJs feel better with her comment that she ‘never made more than $100 before she was 33’ (she’s now one of the hottest tickets around). UJ LOVED Bernard Sumner from New Order, who brought us through his glory days of early Ibiza and Hacienda. UJ also loved Elrow’s Arnau family who took us through their family tree; they’ve been in the entertainment business for over 150 years, and their fam (techno grandpa included) sounds like the kind UJ could hang with! And with their recent investment, global domination is en route. Event highlights included the dinner at Pacha for its founder, Richard Urgell, and of course the IMS finale in Dalt Vila, where there were a series of B2Bs including Martinez Brothers x Masters at Work and Seth Troxler x Miss Kitten. FRESH! Happy 10th birthday, IMS.

| OD Talamanca Overview | | UJ’s home away from home | | | | Moments from the Talamanca boardwalk (and just five minutes to either Fish Shack or the new Nobu), with spectacular views of Dalt Vila, OD Talamanca is a UJ fave – the right mix of away-from-it-all and amidst-the-action. We say book a loft and enjoy the bluetooth speakers, free mini bar, Nespresso machines and floor-to-ceiling sea views. Or splash out and opt for a Duplex Suite, which comes with a rooftop swimming pool and a 120sqm terrace with amazing views. The hotel has a parking lot (rare for this location), three pools, personable staff and, soon, a gym. It’s truly a home away from home. And if you’re looking to do a retreat or event instead, OD has three meeting rooms that hold up to 90 guests, or take over the pool, chill area or the spacious restaurant. There’s state-of-the-art equipment and excellent catering, too.

| Opening Highlights | | All night long | | Pacha Ibiza | | Labyrinth is Hot Since 82’s new Friday night at Pacha and boy, does it deliver. The opening night saw Hot Since 82, Sasha, Maya Jane Coles and La Fleur (more on her later) on the decks. The décor was classy, as were the dancers’ looks, the dance floor was packed, and the energy was HIGH. Check it out! UJ also loved a set by Gerd Janson at DC10 – actually, we loved every set at DC10 – and then it was over to Cocoon to see Sven tear up the dance floor. All in all, an amazing opening week.

| Seth Troxler x Horizn | | You’ll want this bag | | | | We’re big fans of Seth Troxler – no one works harder, and we love his sound – and we’re already fans of Horizn (we bought a bag when they first came out), so this collab is a no-brainer. Made by the DJ for other DJs on the go, and with all the great design and tech features (chargers, GPS) that Horizn’s known for, this bag is a game-changer. Their prices are relatively reasonable too. Watch out, Rimowa!

Book a Junior Suite or Suite OD Talamanca, and you get a complimentary Smart Cabrio. Mileage and insurance is already included, so there’s no extra costs, and parking’s a breeze. | Ibiza Bohemia | | Order it now | | | | Written by our great friend Maya Boyd and Renu Kashyap, we haven’t even seen the book yet but from the cover alone, we know we need it. From the pics we’ve seen so far, it looks like our kind of Ibiza. And as it’s published by Assouline, you know it’s going to be a glossy goodie. Get this for the Ibiza lover in your life (or yourself).

| Hï Opening | | Bienvenidos a Ibiza! | | | | We didn’t make it to Hï (10am-er at Amnesia the night before, oops), but what we do know from our sources is: it has a slide. It also has a DJ in the washroom – many said that was their favourite party – and lots of lights (the words Vegas and bling were referenced frequently). What we saw with our own eyes was that the outside certainly looks slick. And we’re looking forward to Black Coffee there on Saturdays. Space, your closing was one of our most favourite days ever, but it’s time to welcome this newbie (next time, anyway): hi, Hï.

| Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay | | Welcome to the hood | | | | Nobu’s coming, Nobu’s coming! Set to open June 30th, Nobu is going to bring some glitz to the sleepy boardwalk of Talamanca. With a beach restaurant called Chambao (by El Chiringuito at Es Cavallet), an Ibiza outpost of Notting Hill’s Mexican, Peyotito, a health café called Celicioso (see what they did there?), two pools, a spa, blow dry bar, and a Nobu (of course), this hotel is not messing about! The views will be amazing and the design is super chic (we love the sandalwood/silver metal panelling), too. We’re interested to see how this opening affects the Talamanca strip – we say welcome to the hood!

| El Chiringuito, Es Cavallet | | We’ve been waiting for this | | | | Speaking of El Chiringuito, this UJ fave in Es Cavallet is now open at night, wahey! Come here from 7:30 till late for the usual El Chiringuito classics – spaghetti frutti di mare, seabass in salt, and classics like tuna burgers, tartars and niçoise – but this time, enjoy them under the stars. Pre- DC10 dining just got later….

| Mabel Management Openings: Tatel and Zela | | Double trouble | | | | Launching two restaurants in Ibiza this summer, Tatel (in the Hard Rock Hotel) and Zela, Mabel Management has definitely been busy. Both restaurants have three heavy-hitting Spanish ambassadors — Enrique (Iglesias), Rafa (Nadal), and Pau (Gasol) — and at Tatel, which is already in Miami and Madrid, the vibe is classic, rich reds and greens with white tablecloths, and the menu Spanish. As for Zela, if you’re looking for a sushi alternative to Pacha that’s still suitably close, this could be for you. Expect fresh fish, two bars and outdoor dining.

| La Fleur – DJ Watch | | Know this name | | | | If you haven’t heard the name La Fleur yet, you will soon. Based in Berlin but from Sweden, this class act has just landed select dates at Pacha (for Labyrinth), and she’s just been confirmed for Pete Tong’s new Blue Marlin residency alongside Tiga on July 2nd. You won’t find hands in the air with La Fleur (a.k.a. Sanna Engdahl), just smooth, chic, progressive tech beats. A lover of Acne Studios and Vetements, her fashion is also as forward thinking as her music (#UJLoves). Follow her on Instagram and listen to her Soundcloud here. Want to catch her this summer? See her June dates on the image above.
