Music, old style

Dan Tyler and Conrad McDonnell are two very unassuming DJs you won't be seeing down local discos anytime soon.

As the Idjut Boys they have carved themselves a niche that does not conform to the standards of everyday clubland.

They inhabit a place fit only for inquisitive music lovers who want to be surprised rather than be played the same old Defected records once again. They are truly the DJ's DJ if you like.

Meeting in Cambridge through a mutual love of disco, reggae and house, they went on to form the influential U-Star record label in the mid-90s before setting off on a DJ career that has seen them play regularly in San Francisco, Tokyo, Stockholm and beyond.

As their sharp new mix compilation 'Press Play' testifies, it's their willingness to cook up a heady brew of Italian disco, seminal disco, hip hop and even Haircut 100 that gives them a well-deserved cult following.

Catch the Idjuts tonight at the launch party for their compilation with a free prioritised guest list place for Urban Junkies readers, courtesy of AKA.

They are truly touched.
