So Shoreditch. Who ever thought the innovative land would become so safe and predictable? If you're looking for something on the right side of decadent that doesn't close at the time you were hoping to arrive, you're going to have to hunt it out. Which is exactly the point: Cutting edge is still here, it's just not in the listings. |

The very discreet Hat on Wall in EC1's diamond district (bright orange door opposite Clerkenwell House) is fast becoming London's hippest warehouse bar. Open Wednesday through Saturday till late, Hat on Wall is about the best music, vodka and NYC style opening hours. For those still looking for a drink in the very small hours try Gary's Bar, the legendary Shoreditch party venue, that is now licensed and re-housed in a dark lane near the City. And for those looking for both exclusivity and a bed for the night, the ultra-chic Rookery hotel is a must-see. Housed in a 250-year old Clerkenwell warehouse this boutique venue is in the contact books of a limited number of A-listers and in-the-know Londoners only. And if all that fails to excite, you really are in the wrong city.
