About a squillion years ago bars and restaurants introduced the cum-gallery concept. This basically meant that as soon as minimalism went out of fashion they hung some artwork on the walls and became a club-cum-restaurant-cum-despot-cum-bar-cum-dive-cum-members-cum-gallery. So it makes sense that galleries should become cum-bars. |

And galleries the nation over are doing so, proving it's time to maximise that virgin white space. And personally we've a hell of a lot more faith in creatives launching leisure initiatives than hospitality mavens curating art. Look at the V&A's Friday nights parties, Helium Foundation's collection-building powers and The Muse's symbiotic concept and you'll see what we mean. The latest to join the multi-pack is Alex Proud, who joins forces with the ubiquitous Vince Power to launch At Proud, a place we feel very At Home at (we love). 150 deckchairs - on a fabulous concrete terrace (feels a bit like Space) with amazing urban views and décor - will provide the two-storey venue's seating, each emblazoned with Proud prints hewn by Wallpaper* designers, while cocktails are invented by the likes of Carl Barratt, Irvine Welsh and Joan Collins. Yes, really. And if anyone should ask what you do? You're an artist-cum-photographer-cum-model-cum-trustafarian-cum-writer-cum-designer-cum-drunk, of course.
