Now, I like a drink. In truth, I probably like a drink as much, if not more than, the next fellow. Just last evening, on my way home, I'd had a couple too many, and experienced a coming together with a bicycle. Which was strange, since I'd been counting my drinks studiously all evening. I'd had 17. |

Only joking! Or am I? Which is one of many reasons I herald the arrival of a great new trend: Ladies & Gentleman, may I present to you (drum roll) the Non-Alcoholic Cocktail. An amazing thing unheard of in most London establishments where a pint of lime & soda is a bargain three quid. Summer highlights for luxurious, hangover-free quaffing include Sketch, where the Dubai-friendly (its namesake just opened there, too) list includes no less than 43 alcohol-free libations. Also on the (band) wagon are new bar Volstead (named after the senator who introduced prohibition), which serves the tooth-decay-inducing 'Hello Sucker' (a blend of kumquats and passion fruit sweetened with maple syrup and fresh pineapple), and bowling mecca All Star Lanes, which serves a good blend of 'Pulp Fiction' fruit drinks, shakes, and iced teas. Time please. |
