It's going to be around the 28 degrees mark in Miami this week and many music industry bods will be making their annual pilgrimage to dance on a beach beneath the stars at this year's Winter Music Conference. The rest of us are more likely to be trapped on the Northern Line listening to some mug playing Fergie on their iPod. Yet the reality of going to the Sunshine State's premier music event is not always a great one. |

You're pretty much guaranteed nice weather, swanky hotels and golden beaches, but any conference newcomer can also expect a lengthy interview at immigration, oversized DJs, aggressive doormen, numerous fake breasts, lots of men called Brad who consistently punch the air for no apparent reason, and some spectacularly dull dance music. Yet if the intrepid partygoer has their radar on full,
there are still some excellent night-outs to be had. Avoid the heavily
advertised big hotel-based events and instead head off the main drag
towards word-of-mouth warehouse or beach parties where you should find
exceptional DJs like Felix Da Housecat doing their thing. |
