There is nothing I love more than a long, leisurely breakfast, as much for the people-watching as the food. That isn't to say I'm happy to sit in any old greasy spoon just for a glimpse of buider's cleavage or legging-induced camel-toe (though I am partial to the odd fry-up without the visual extras). No, we're talking a higher class of both comestibles and voyeurism here. |

Aubaine on the Brompton Road is a favourite venue of mine, for its white-washed Frenchness (you can get your oeufs brouillés with a simple tomato salad) and Eurotrash eye-candy, and in June a second branch opens on Heddon Street in Mayfair - good news for a more bohemian, Momo-loving crowd. Tom's Kitchen, another Chelsea goodie, has equal low-key glitz appeal and a deliciously lengthy menu, from waffles with blueberry compote to a well-sourced Full English, and Lucky Seven in Notting Hill offers a mean pancakes with maple syrup and crispy bacon - and the possibility of squeezing into a booth with Stella McCartney. Marylebone residents flock to The Providores and Tapa
Room for black pudding with roast apple, and to eavesdrop on local gossip,
and The Zetter and Aurora @ The Great Eastern Hotel (which has a new
breakfast menu boasting duck eggs Benedict with truffled hollandaise)
are both popular hangouts for the fashion and foodie conscious. |
