Camouflage
Q: What links cubist art, Maharishi clothing, Andy Warhol, Philip
Treacy, and the 1968 Paris riots?
A: Camouflage. This symbol of war has been co-opted for decades
by countercultural types across music, film, fashion, and art
and this exhibition traces that journey. From its invention
in 1915 by French "camofleurs", "disruptive pattern
material", as it's properly known, has impacted far outside
the battlefield. Ironically, camouflage, most of which was intended
for forest, tundra, or desert just makes us stand out all the
more in urban environments. Hmm.
