The sound of '80s New York via South Yorkshire... Here's an album for those souls who can appreciate the finer qualities of pop whilst also enjoying the hedonistic sound of underground dance music. The pop comes courtesy of vocally-blessed Sheffield lass Kathy Diamond whilst the funky basslines and edgy electronica are cooked up by respected DJ/producer Maurice Fulton. |

It's a musical marriage that works. The result is something akin to a soulful Hot Chip. Fulton obviously relishes the chance to work with a talented singer and he makes the most of it with plenty of trippy effects over uplifting piano lines. On tracks such as 'All Woman' the album's heart seems
to be in the heyday of early to mid '80s New York club culture - the
time when disco went back under the radar to its black gay roots, soon
to be reborn later as house music. You can indeed hear endearing musical
references to cult classics such as Gwen Guthrie's 'Seventh Heaven'. |

There are some annoying vocal interludes between the tracks, but ultimately this should be welcomed as a groovy electronic disco record with some lovely songs to boot. Kathy
