Enough of all that "promoting young
designers" talk pervading our little fashion capital.
All talk and no action, we say. Give the public something!
We're talking accessibility here. Give us someone who puts
his money where his mouth is.
So imagine my excitement when I chanced upon 172. Everyone
they stock is a design rookie, but mavericks in their own
right. Completely independent, small production, fresh-on-the-hipster-scene.
I loved the Westwood-inspired trousers with a low crotch,
hand-sketched T-shirt designs, tailored dresses that are
edgy yet beautiful, patent summer sandals trimmed like Oxfords.
Think East London offbeat mixed with Japanese street and
you've nailed 172's aesthetic. And did I mention I was salivating
over their glass cases of accessories? Decidedly unglamorous.
