Wine carafe by Claudio Colucci

We at UJ love wine.

But apart from an intro trip to Burgundy (mmm Pinot), a slew of wine books (Wall Street Journal good, Matt Skinner bad), and our serious relationship with the Oddbins staff (we have our favourite branches...), our knowledge is pretty limited.

So, when the charming Wine Chap glided into our sights it was like a gift from Bacchus himself. We think it could be love. Or, at least our palates do.

Like a mercenary in the unending battle against cheap plonk, our heroic oenophile can be hired to share his passion and wisdom over a bottle or three. Whether you're after a broad comparison of global wine styles or a more specific exploration of Tuscan vineyards, his bespoke sessions are as far from the classroom as you can get.

So enamoured are we with the Chap, that we’ve persuaded him to present a new monthly slot, where he’ll give you a run through of all the newest movements in the wine world, about the latest trends, the raisins du jour, as well as clearing up a few common faux-pas en route. No more Sainsbury’s Merlot in a box, we fear.
