Sado managed to tick many of the seasonal trends with capes, shimmering fabrics, a hint of Goth and some strict tailoring. There were some great pieces but it never felt entirely convincing as a collection, often the case when a designer has a lot of ideas and wants to express all of them. A softly cowl necked sweater style top in olive green featured sleeves with a touch of the Tudor about them; the teaming with a pair of wide neutral trousers was perfect; a black glitter dress with trumpet sleeves and a deep satin sash evoked Morticia Addams for a sexy goth look. The classic ivory sweater and scarf worn again with softly cut trousers had a hint of Grace Kelly, and the drop waisted tuxedo look with dozens of buttons forming the neat double breasted under layer was definitely a look with a nod to the garconne style of the 1920's, the 20's was also referenced in a dress featuring floral chiffon scarf effect neckline and softly tied sash.
For those women who see themselves as the damsel in distress or perhaps a consort to King Arthur a vivid hyacinth blue satin dress with a draped skirt being held into folds was the perfect thing to wear.
All in all a little confusing as to the fashion message for winter 2008 but undoubtedly offering a little something for a wide range of tastes. After all - variety is the spice of life - so they say- so why not the spice of fashion?
