Professional expertise can sometimes be difficult to pin point or define yet with this collection Deryck Walker demonstrated a professionalism and design level which many young designers should aspire to and take as a template. With strong hair and make up the first model showed a wonderfully cocooned cape coat with satin ribbon details immediately followed by a pared down menswear look. This juxtaposition of the dramatic and the conventional set the tone wonderfully for the presentation. the perfect geometric polo dress with the neatest of silhouettes was followed by a dress with circular cut sleeve providing a 21st century take on the Victorian leg 'o mutton sleeve.
Every outfit seemed considered and refined with pleated wrap skirts and 50's couture style coats amongst the stand outs - the latter with a crisp scarf of stiff tulle at the neck. The fabrics were exciting with a deep violet blue and black checkerboard wool and a mini scale Donegal tweed amongst them.
Shape and silhouette concentrated on volume with both men's and women's coats covering oversize parka/sleeping bag shapes, and crisply tailored Savile Row streamlined shapes.
The packed audience rightly applauded a designer going places with a strong view of fashion and uniquely at home in both menswear and womenswear - congratulations.
