| Now while I admit this
might not sound like the most glamorous fabric to have hanging about your
designer-clad body, these bags are truly individual and will more than
cope with the daily demands placed upon them by your hard and fast city
lifestyle. This is true gritty urban glamour! The company started in 1993 when the Freitag brothers moved to New York and were inspired by the sights and sounds of the land of the car. Watching the trucks on the freeways speeding off to all parts of the United States and beyond, the boys dreamed about one day hitching a lift and seeing the world from the soft roof of a lorry. By chance they discovered some old truck tarpaulin and hauled it back to their friends flat, cleaned it off, started cutting and stitching and the Freitag bag was born. Or so the story goes…! The original Freewaybag is certainly a robust piece of equipment. As each one is cut from a different cloth (as it were) they are all one-off’s. The collection now ranges from surfboard bags to punch bags, just in case life gets a little fraught. You can even go online www.freitag.ch to design your own bag from a selection of tarpaulins using the pattern templates that they provide. If you choose to buy your bag they’ll tell you when your virtual bag will become a reality and do the rest!
