The newest celebrity trend doesn't seem to be binge-and-purge sessions with the toilet or tiled Moroccan villas. No, it seems that downdating is all the rage among the glitterati. |
Screenings, DJ-VJ mixing and a creative lounge vibe as Addictive TV and Cinefeel serve up the (sometime) monthly Audio-Visual Lounge at Below 54. 7:30pm-12am tonight. 54-56 Gt Eastern St, EC2. £4. | ||

Catches like George Clooney, Kevin Spacey, and Matt Damon all date pedestrian women. Women who have normal jobs outside the film industry and may even do their own laundry. How can we commoners take part in this new trend? By banishing all those pesky biological thoughts about snagging the best mate and finding someone that actually makes you look good. The social equivalent of grunge dressing, serial downdaters (myself, included) know that there is no point in having arm candy that steals your precious limelight. Downdating ensures that you are the pretty/smart/rich one in the relationship. Even better, no one can ever accuse you of being shallow. Look at the dog you go to bed with each night. That fat spotty guy from IT. Give him a chance! Your mum's best friend? Hey, no one has to know. Go on, make a minger's day. EC |
Perhaps not the Oscars but guaranteed to have more salsa and fiddles than a restless Salma H. The 2nd Radio 3 Awards for World Music takes place tonight at 7pm. Ocean, 270 Mare St, E8. Tickets 020 7314 2800 |
