How to lose friends and alienate people
Mess with Texas and prepare for a lead enema!

Some people think that the best way to lose friends and alienate people is by:

A) snogging their partners;

B) brawling with them in nightclubs; or

C) both (if you are really determined).

As part of the Spike Lee retrospective at the Barbican, a host of guest stars will flank the man himself and jazz master Terence Blanchard for a concert of their best soundtracks. 7:30pm. Silk St, EC2. £15-30. 020 7638 8891 or online.

More lessons in how to lose friends and alienate people: The Madness of George Dubya at the Arts Theatre until May 3 only. Leicester Sq, WC2. 020 7836 3334. £18.

For British journalist Toby Young, he achieved it through a disastrous stint as Vanity Fair editor in New York. After ending up an unemployed alcoholic, he recalled his experiences in the best seller, 'How to Lose Friends and Alienate People'.

The book has now been adapted for the stage by Tim Fountain, who in a curious twist of irony wrote 'Julie Burchill is Away', about one of Young's lost friends.

The play is conclusive proof that the man could even show Liberty X a thing or two about reaping success from dismal failure - although his talent for reinvention has possibly gone a bit far.

After rumours of a Hollywood film version starring our favourite box-office-fop, Hugh Grant, the play stars the devilishly handsome Jack Davenport (Miles from This Life) as the short, bald and bespectacled Mr Young.
