Better Out Than In
Do check the weather forecast before heading outside this weekend

Now that we can wake up in the morning and say Good Day to the sunshine (fingers crossed for the weekend), it seems a waste to spend all weekend being a slug-a-bed.

Here are three pleasant patios that are worth a visit this weekend.

Would, Should, Can, Did. A group of impressive collective talent including Susan Stenger, Hussein Chalayan and Sarah Lucas collaborate with Michael Clark for a one-off night of wild artistic experimentation at the Barbican. 8pm. Silk St, EC2. £12.50-25. 020 7638 8891 or online.

The Approach, Approach Road, E2 - 020 8980 2321
Pull up a pew and feel the heat – from the handsome punters and the heat lamps alike. This is one of the best beer gardens in London.

Waterway, 54 Formosa St, W9 - 020 7266 3557
A cross between the Caribbean (the inside has a surf shack vibe) and Little Venice. A great wooden deck, an interesting crowd (which at times could be something of an attraction on its own in Maida Vale) and a waterfront view are what makes this place ace.

William IV, 786 Harrow Road, NW10 - 020 8969 5944
Even if it's on a busy road and the inside looks no different than your average pub, give it a chance - the back garden is definitely worth a visit. Here you'll find the usual fare of picnic tables and heat lamps, but the up-for-it crowd, egged on by the DJs, is what really packs this joint. Inside or out, this place gets-a-rockin'. And, please, don't leave here without trying the chips.
