There are few more unlikely days out than weird art + mucking about on boats + ground breaking architecture. But that's exactly what's on the menu in Hyde Park this summer. |

The Serpentine Gallery has been bringing the world's great artists to the public free of charge since 1970, and this summer it's the turn of Cindy Sherman, whose self portraits over the last 25 years ask questions about identity, managing to be simultaneously childlike and sophisticated. Sherman's portraits see her got up as madwoman and madonna, minx and maven. Next door, the Serpentine's series of temporary pavilions sees an incredible structure by the legendary Oscar Niemeyer. The man who built Brasilia, the Brasilian capital, and designed with Le Corbusier in the 30s, is now in his 90s, and his first UK building is a stunner. Like a shaft of light, his epic white soaring lines appear to have fallen from space, landing neatly in the park. And if that's not enough, Marlene Dietrich shines in the classic Blonde Venus this Friday. Her explosive gorilla-suited Hot Voodoo act kicks off the Friday night Open-Air Film season.
