Find and Replace
If only it were that easy

There are two kinds of single.

Active single is full of romantic dates, dancing on tabletops and back alley snogs with good-looking younger strangers.

Passive single, on the other hand, is mostly about Milk Chocolate McVities, sad movies, sex with inatimate objects and cancelling that monthy bikini wax, four months in a row.

We have two free tickets to give away for the hopping Yo Yo @Cherry Jam tonight to the first correct answer: Name the drummer from The Roots. Email reply. 10pm-2am. 58 Porchester Rd, W2. £7 (£5 b4 11pm).
The V&A's new Zoomorphic brilliantly shows just how modern architecture draws inspiration from the animal form. 10am-5:45pm. Cromwell Rd, SW7. Free.

The object is to stay in active singlehood, even if it means dating a few duds. Too much time in passive singlehood, and you start festering. Plus, your mum has nothing to talk about with her friends.

Cindy Chupack, the famed scriptwriter from Sex and the City, has come up with a singlehood bible. "The Between Boyfriends Book" is a genius little volume of anecdotes but the author is quick to point out that this is not about self-help. 'I'd like to put on record that this book is not about giving advice. It's about commiserating and ultimately celebrating this crazy, heart wrenching, exhilarating time in our lives, because it doesn't last forever. It only seems like forever...'

Because eventually there comes a time when men don't back you up against walls anymore. And that's sad. Sadder than Love Story. Sadder than The Way We Were. Sadder than that itsy bitsy penis of your ex-boyfriend's that you posted on the Internet...
