After unleashing the embroidered combat trouser trend on the world, (copies of which are still being flogged at Primark) Maharishi have teamed up with Medicom to present the artiest Christmas gifts. In reference to Warhol's infamous 'Velvet Underground' album cover they have produced a stuffed banana in three sizes - 12" for £10, 24" for £30, and 36" for £60 - which unzip to reveal a pink inside. Which, I guess you could use as... erm, an orthopedic cushion. Meanwhile, the 'Andy Warhol Factory Pack', which sells for £30, contains plastic figures of Andy Warhol Kubrick, Bearhol Be@rbrick, and Sam B@wbrick, along with a Vinyl banana. And in a cheeky nod to the silver walls of Warhol's studio 'The Factory', they come packaged in silver Perspex. So what would Mr W make of this unbridled consumerism? The man painted Campbell soup cans and "loved plastic idols" so I think he'd approve. Whether or not banana cushions turn up at Primark is anyone's guess.
