We love celebrities. And we love them even more when they're attached to cultural activities. So Steve Kaufman's 'Celebrities' exhibition at the Deluxe Gallery looks hot. |

Having worked as an assistant at Warhol's 'Factory' from 1978, Kaufman was one of the few to complete Warhol's unfinished celebrity portraits. As a result, he is on more than nodding terms with the frighteningly famous: Ali, Sinatra, Pacino, not to mention England's Rose, are all remembered as acquaintances. When he wasn't ensconcing himself within a roll call of 20th Century iconography, Kaufman was busy designing themed parties at Studio 54 and showing his work alongside Keith Haring at Club 57. By 1988, he took off where Warhol ended and used his sculptures and silk screen prints to usher in a new pop era. Madonna and Janet Jackson acted as the logical progressions from Marilyn and Diana Ross. In this new show, all work will be on sale. But, we doubt you'll be able to pick up that vibrantly-hued rendering of Kym Marsh that you've been hankering for. Shame. Steve Kaufman 'Celebrities' Nov 19-26, 2003 - private view tonight
