Deep Fried Goodness
Go fish

Supposedly, fish and chips were the only gastronomic delight not rationed during the war.

Churchill figured that a greasy packet of cod and chips contained all the nutritional requirements required by the modern soldier.

No wonder we won.

While gastro trends come and go, deep fried goodness is still a firm favourite. Harry Ramsden started serving fish and chips out of a tiny
shack in Leeds in 1928 and 70 years later, his restaurants are an institution throughout the UK and now, finally, London is getting its very own branch.

There isn't anything fancy about this place, no fusion, and it is certainly not macrobiotic. This is proper man food: hot, fried and ready to go. If the missus says you're fat and should order the swordfish, just remind her that it was fish and chips that nourished this country in its darkest hour and if it weren't for people like Harry Ramsden and Churchill, we would all be speaking German.

Harry Ramsden - first London branch opens today
