Like a Phoenix from the Ashes
Have another one, even past 11.

Okay, so you're not getting into the Groucho Club.

Try as you may, the better the blag, the more humiliating the shutdown.

Outrageous comedy at the Vauxhaull Tavern as Kiki & Herb put on the well un-PC Pissed at Christmas show. 9pm. 372 Kennington Lane, SE11. £15-17.50. Book on 020 7478 0100.

You've probably been eating carbs (they can see that), there isn't a part of your body that's been touched by the blade, and your highlights are circa de '84. This is simply not going to do.

There is, however, a more inviting spot where thesps go out to play and it's actually a great late night haunt. Located beneath Blood Brothers, Downstairs at the Phoenix has been around for almost as long as that awful play has.

It's not glamorous, or even designer cool, but it has definitely got that special something. Low lighting, intimate seating and husky voices instantly draw you into this clandestine den and there isn't an entourage or even a feather boa (shame) in sight.

Drinks are cheap and non-members are allowed entrance until 7pm. At approximately 25 quid for a membership, this is definitely the most welcoming members bar in town.

Downstairs at the Phoenix
