There is though, definitely, a rather good free magazine called FACT, which covers a wide spread of contemporary, underground music, and is distributed through hip record/fashion stores, and music/arts venues. The current issue speculates whether the USSR was the coolest brand that never was, and asks why Nina Simone isn't as popular as the Beatles? The music reviews avoid Q's blandness and cover electro, soul, hip-hop, reggae, punk, and other contemporary styles in a snappy, no-nonsense style. FACT is packaged like a 7 inch single, and fills a definite gap in the market for those of us who've lost touch with what's what in new music, but still want to jump around the living room to some cool tunes. |
