Bid your farewell in good company - and with a 40m2 screen
High brow reading

I've always loved Sleaze – the concept and the magazine.

Whilst the independent publication was officially christened Sleazenation eight years ago, most of its readers dropped the nation bit a long time back, and now with their recent relaunch, so have they.

It's the DJ, not disco queen, Donna Summer who spins at Wheels Instead of Hooves at Electrowerkz. 10pm-6am. 7 Torrens Street, EC1. £7.

A revamped Fridge launches tonight as a hetero-friendlier club night with Fusion. 10pm -5am. One Townhall Parade, SW2. £12. 07905 035 682.

A heady publishing cocktail of Private Eye, Adbusters, Cheap Date and Tokion, Sleazenation was all about eschewing the mainstream sycophancy and hype engulfing the worlds of fashion, music, art and design. Affronted by fantastical consumption, it would extol the virtues of Elizabeth Duke's instore jewellery boutique at Argos in favour of the latest Vuitton handbag.

And I am pleased to say that it hasn't changed that much under its new editor, Neil Boorman, who created the ironic Hoxtonian bible, Shoreditch Twat. With many of its original staff still there (previous editor Stuart Turnbull now edits the sizeable 20 page music section), it's still got a satirical tongue in cheek and opinionated posturing, but now acknowledges its own contradictions. Sleaze aspires to luxury but can't escape the dirt; wants to believe the hype but can't.

Ciné Lumière dishes up a bit of visual poetry with preview of At Five in the Afternoon, Cannes Prix du Jury winner. 8pm. 17 Queensberry Place, SW7. £7. 020 7073 1350.

In keeping with the tone of the magazine, Sleaze and Kappa are celebrating the relaunch tonight with a Car Boot Sale party at Clifton Street NCP car park. It may not be glam or gloss, but it's definitely very Sleaze, and that's the way we like it.
