Spiewak, best known for its no-nonsense nylon coats, is a hundred years old this month and, to celebrate, has asked a bunch of fashion designers and celebs to customise one of its classic snorkel parkas, which are up for auction this Thursday.

It's an interesting project, since Spiewak is rightly lauded more for the functionality of its gear than the vagaries of fashion. Fashion-types have long loved Spiewak though, probably because it avoids fads and has an equally successful business supplying uniforms to the likes of the NYPD.

The customised parkas - by famousities like Noel Gallagher, Paul Weller and Vic Reeves, as well as a bunch of fashion designers - are a mixed bunch, with - as you might expect - the fashion designers showing considerably more skill than the celebs (I particularly like Karen Walker's and Wale Adeyemi's deer printed effort).

But then again, if you want to wear a garm that's been adorned by the hand of Goldie, you might have some competition on your hands, so be sure to make your offer count.
