Being an artist can be a lonely business. Despite the hype surrounding wealthy patrons and their protégées, such as Charles Saatchi and his litany of YBA's, the majority struggle to even find a gallery willing to splurge money on them and their works. |

Buy-sellf was created to let artists help themselves. Originally the brainchild of three Bordeaux boys, this now 80 strong collective was formed to promote the work of upcoming artists without gallery representation. Five years later and they are celebrating the launch of their fourth self-published mail order catalogue. Previous catalogues have included such memorable items as the double-headed Lambda toothbrush, the multi- purpose elastikattak and the inflatable magic bed. Buy-sellf seeks to inject the exceptional, absurd or poetic into everyday life. This may all sound a bit big-headed, but the French excel at creating lofty cultural concepts that actually work. Buy-sellf catalogues also promote music and offer services such as the transformation of your home with a brand new floor, wall and ceiling designed by a Buy-sellf artist, akin to a cultural version of Changing Rooms. |
