Shooting star acquitted

I'm sure we'd all love to shoot a few celebrities, but Richard Young does it for a living.

He is, of course, a world renowned photographer rather than a professional hitman, and The Hospital Gallery in Covent Garden is currently celebrating 30 years of his work.

Meet David Hockney tonight at the Royal Institution for a talk on Drawing in the Age of the Camera. 6:30pm. 21 Albemarle Street, W1. £10. 020 7300 5839 or email.

Go all 80s at Peacock's new Retro Chart Rundown night. 8pm-12am. Dray Walk, E1. Free. 020 7392 9180.

Spread over the 70s, 80s and 90s, this one hundred photograph retrospective charts Young's snap happy frenzy that has caught icons such as Liz Taylor, Andy Warhol, and Princess Di in classic images.

It was he who helped launch Liz Hurley's 'career', when he shot her in a certain horrible frock. Apart from that we have much to thank him for, in particular his photographic documentation of the excesses of Bianca Jagger and Co at Studio 54 (not that they probably thank him for it now).

Saatchi-fave Stella Vine now at Transition Gallery. 1-6pm. 11a Lauriston Rd, E9. Free.

Venetian masks & slapstick comedy at St John's from I Fagiolini. 7:30pm. Smith Sq, SW1. £9-18. 020 7222 1061.

Designed to invite discussion about the true value of celebrity, the exhibition allows you to question the delicate relationship between the cult of personality and the public gaze.

Alternatively, if you just fancy revelling in the glamour of it all, get yourself down there to remember what real stars were like.
