The Best New Indie Music Imported from Canada - June 17 at The Borderline
Southern living... 'Parallel' by Daisy Delaney 2002. Available at Britart.com

I really hate being anywhere near Clapham at the weekend.

Bars are packed, clubs are dire and the high street restaurants are largely mass-market chains.

Which is why the new Clapham North comes as such a relief.

Located across from the tube with the same name, Clapham North is a recently opened gastro with style and substance. The warm lighting, high back booths and plush leather chairs invite you to get comfy and stick around. They even have a fireplace - not that appealing right now, but it will be in the dredge of winter.

The crowd is relaxed, the music's not too loud and the outside tables, although not scenic, are spacious. There's a good selection of beer on tap and the menu is a pleasant change from the generic offerings elsewhere on the strip. Highlights include mezze platters , salads with bite and deluxe burgers. Nothing too fancy, but perfect for a Sunday afternoon.

Clapham North is casual, refined and really does stand out from the rest. It may even be good enough to get your friends to travel south.

Maybe.
