Isn't gentrification wonderful? Not four years ago, gastro-pubs in areas like Kentish Town were few and far between. You'd have to hoof it to Islington or Primrose Hill before you could get your God-given right to brie and basil salad with a smattering of homemade garlic croutons. But up-and-coming (translation: mostly scummy) Kentish Town Road has a new establishment to bring in the tony neighbours. |

At first glance, The Abbey looks like any quality gastro-pub infusion. Rough-hewn oak tables. Check. Decent menu with an emphasis on foreign food and posh ale. Check. Cute, trendy, scruffy bar staff. Check. But wander a little farther in - past the tables of super-sexy graphic designers studying the Sunday tabloids - and you'll find a sultry velvet and leather dining room, one of the largest backyard patios (complete with jazz singer and rotisserie-style barbecue) and a roof terrace with its own enclosed Moroccan-style hut. |
