This weekend, the relentless sound of whistles and steel drums will once again be heard all over west London as Europe's biggest street party, the Notting Hill Carnival, celebrates its 40th anniversary.

As usual Norman Jay’s Good Times sound system is set to be one of the highlights, but for those who like to dance in more intimate surroundings head over to The Metropolitan on Monday for the Electric Souls Party. Run by Manchester's finest DJs The Unabombers, a barbeque, beer garden and "late night psychedelic soul music" are promised.

This will also be the launch party for the second of their 'Electric Soul' mix CDs which neatly blur the boundaries between broken beat, house and R&B and have won The Unabombers fans from esteemed quarters such as Gilles Peterson and Ashley Beedle. Special guests will join them behind the decks.
