Sacha
Jafri at Ryder Street Gallery December 2-17
"The spirit of youth suffuses Jafri’s latest collection:
boundless, restless, athletic energy, frenzy, zeal, and an obvious enjoyment
of paint. It is refreshing to find a young artist today concentrating
on painting... striving to stir the viewer’s imagination and feelings."
Acclaimed art critic Terrance Rodrigues
Talented hip young British painter, Sacha Jafri will be exhibiting
his latest collection of work entitled "The Investigative Journey
– Reconstructing The Deconstructed" at The Ryder Street Gallery,
St James's from December 2nd - 17th 2004.
Hailed by the BBC London News as "The Renaissance man set to seduce
us away from conceptual art with his passion for painting", Sacha,
a graduate of Fine Arts from the Ruskin, Oxford University has achieved
widespread recognition amongst art critics and buyers alike. Collectors
of his work include A-list celebrities such as Kevin Spacey, and Sadie
Frost, private individuals such as Phillip Green, Bill Gates and Prince
Albert of Monaco, corporates and numerous Royal collections
"The Investigative Journey – Reconstructing The Deconstructed"
paints a picture of Sacha’s unique exploration to his own subconscious.
"My pieces are the physical result of my own investigative journey;
when I start to paint I never really know where it is going to lead
me, I just sort of feel my way until the painting starts to speak to
me". In this way Sacha encourages the viewer to take their own
investigative journey into his pieces and as a result form their own
relationships and interpretation of them. To this end Sacha’s
references come not only from leading artists such as Pollock and Kadinsky,
writers such as Kafka and Burroughs but also from film makers such as
Burton, Mendez and Kubrick.
For Sacha, this latest collection is also "about the sheer enjoyment
of paint and the process in which it can be channelled to create harmonies
of colour, rhythm and expression". It juxtaposes between the quasi-abstract
and the almost entirely figurative, between premeditated "drip
paintings" and explorations of Kafka-esque narratives.
The Investigative Journey precedes an exciting year ahead for Sacha
Jafri in 2005. Sacha has not only been invited to exhibit his work at
the Guggenheim, New York, but he will also be embarking on a global
tour - “Jafri Meets Warhol” whereby Sacha’s work will
be exhibited alongside a collection of recently discovered Andy Warhols.
