Whether he was taking pictures of bankers walking through 50s London, or Mick Jagger getting his cock out in the early 70s, Robert Frank always managed to break the rules of his trade. |

Right now Tate Modern is displaying the work of the legendary photographer at an exhibition which consists of fifty years' worth of photography. With 150 images and numerous film projects on display the exhibition demonstrates how Frank managed to document the world around him, from Peru to London, via Detroit and Wales, in a way no one had ever seen before. One thing that had definitely never been seen before was intimate footage of the Rolling Stones' 1972 North American tour, including groupie sex on private jets. But, Frank managed to capture all that and much more in his tour film Cocksucker Blues, which was subsequently banned from being shown by the Stones themselves. Cocksucker Blues sits proudly (if you'll excuse the imagery) at the centre of Tate's comprehensive Robert Frank film season but, as you'd expect, tickets for all eight screenings of the film have been sold out for weeks. |
