Bon appetit

A restaurant with a name you can't pronounce (ok, I can't pronounce) situated in a renovated bank is either going to go one way or the other.

Let's look at the facts: Two brothers, three Michelin stars and one Philippe Starck protégé. Oh, and that name, W'Sens.

Rising German star on violin Julia Fischer plays with the LPO at RFH tonight. 7:30pm Belvedere Rd, SE1. £6-35. 0870 401 8181 or online.

Mancunian vets, first wave punk rockers The Buzzcocks play at Forum. 7pm. 9-17 Highgate Rd, NW5. £12.50. 0870 154 4040 or online.

Twin brothers Jacques and Laurent Pourcel (the culinary tag-team behind the triple Michelin starred Les Jardins Des Sens restaurant in Montpellier) have gone for a Southern Mediterranean slant here. So that means good quality meats and seafood mixed with some unfamiliar flavours such as mandarin, saffron, vanilla and star anise.

The interior's been designed by a protégé of Starck, which means room dividers made from huge strips of suede like oversized bookmarks; a giant spherical light which could easily earn a few bob masquerading as an art installation; and even a library (complete with second hand books) decked out in a shade Dulux probably call Artist-Formerly-Known-As-Prince Purple.

Gourmet food in an over-styled dining room; sounds like all the right elements for a London 'brasserie luxe' newbie. Unless it refers to luxe prices and brass service. The jury's out.
