One of the 80s' best-known music producers, Arthur Baker (DJ and London bar magnate) has teamed up with the founder of Smith of Smithfields to turn one of Brixton’s less salubrious watering holes into a member's bar complete with restaurant and boutique hotel. Harlem Brixton will open in late February on the site of The Prince Of Wales pub on Coldhabour Lane. Local well-known DJs have been recently spotted at nights like Daddy’s Yard making good use of the bar and hefty sound system before the complete transformation occurs. Once fully opened expect a smart bar and restaurant with a serious menu. Called Dex, the member’s bar is likely to become a hang out for touring bands performing at the Academy, as is the boutique hotel on the top floors that will come with turntables in every room. |

What's more you can be guaranteed a man like Arthur Baker will not be filling Harlem with DJs of the funky house variety.
