Colour me up

I like wearing silly shoes. I like knocking things over. And, truth be told, I like drinking. Which is probably why I'm a fan of Rowans Bowl in Finsbury Park, where this kind of behavior is not only expected, it's practically de rigueur.

Sure, for many of us the idea of spending time in a bowling alley is the equivalent of listening to 80s Norwegian Supergroup a-ha: an odd and guilty pleasure better kept very much to oneself.

But having personally experienced the joys of a facility that boasts 24 lanes over two floors, two bars open as late as two am on weekends, pool tables, amusement machines, a dance floor with live DJs Friday through Sunday, and even (as the website proudly boasts) air-conditioning... well, what we basically have here is a fully licensed Disneyland without any queues, kids or crap mascots.

True, N4 isn't exactly Anaheim, but on the bright side Rowans is directly adjacent to Finsbury Park Tube - just take the Station Place exit and you're there.

You can even reserve the whole upper floor and bar, if you have that many friends. May not be swish, but better than being shoved in the lame room at Soho House.
