Incongruity is a funny (and ubiquitous) aspect of modern life. It leads to things like restaurants with drag entertainment in curious places like Swiss Cottage. And that's exactly what you get at the Globe Restaurant in said north London borough. |

Every Thursday evening, diners are treated to an evening long performance by the resident revue act, The Globe Girls. And speaking as Urban Junkies' unofficial drag correspondent, I can confirm it is a peculiar proposition but an unqualified success, nonetheless. The strangely masculine-monikered trio of Neil, Mark and Dean, serve up a gloriously high-octane medley of the usual suspects of transgender cabaret - Chicago, Petula Clark, and Babs Streisand (resplendent with prosthetic nose). Whilst you can also enjoy the Girls' truly post-modern turn as the tragic Cheeky Girls as you tuck into a three-course meal, which, although very enjoyable, is really quite incidental. |

Aside from its obvious appeal for hen night and birthday bashes, it's the perfect place for a first date - with the bejewelled extravaganza covering up any awkward silences. And whilst I'm cautious of sounding like a 1970s Butlins brochure, it really is fun for all. And possibly the only reasonable excuse for visiting NW3. Cabaret
