The
Shack is Back |
|
|
When
we moved to London from Chicago in the 80s, the
first restaurant my parents took us to - I chose-
was the Chicago Rib Shack.
Essentially a London version of TGI Fridays (before
there was one), this 'gem' - if only for the word
Chicago and rib bibs - made me, at 11, feel at
home.

The
Shack, along with its other 'American' partners (Chicago
Meatpackers, to name one) closed, but like all things
from the 80s, the Shack seems to be coming back.
Even better, rumour has it that the Shack's old chef
is also coming back (I secretly hope that the onion
loaf is making a cameo at least, too).
And as the culinary trend for Americana doesn't seem
to be dying anytime soon - Bodeans recently has snakeing
queues, the Diner seems to be ever expanding, and mini
burgers and fries still haven't left the party circuit
- it seems like it might be a welcome return.

|
The
only thing is, in the 80s, I don't think
designer pigs were pets. Now that they are, I
wonder if less people will be flocking to dine
on pig ribs.
Dog dinner anyone?
