No doubt you've already been frantically sunning yourselves, wondering how long this weather can last, but have you done it properly yet - that is, found a quiet spot by the river, spread a blanket, and laid out a spread of delicious cold things to nibble on while you sun your legs and read something delightfully escapist?

No, thought not. Well, now's the time to do it, with a good few purveyors of fine food getting into the picnic spirit. Carluccio's, whose offerings come in re-usable cool bags, include chilli-stuffed olives, courgette and green bean salad, chargrilled vegetables and breaded lamb cutlets, while the brilliant William Drabble at Aubergine has created a deluxe version, featuring chicken liver parfait, grass-fed roast beef, rare cheeses, vintage champagne and freshly-baked scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream.

One Aldwych also do a deliciously English-sounding hamper of quail scotch eggs with caper mayo, asparagus with hollandaise and chicken and ham pie, amongst other luxurious bites.

If you want something easy-peasy in your lunch break, meanwhile, pick up one of the delicious global bento boxes from new company UP Box (the UP standing for Urban Picnic). Choose from harissa and lemon chicken with bulgar, cashew and pistachio salad or a zingy seared tuna with Thai glass noodle salad.

You'll never look at another measly wrap from Boots again.
