Someone Publish Me Goddammit |
|
|
When
I was growing up, there were three things that
I wanted to be: a vet, an author, and a professional
footballer. Oh, the naïveté of youth.
First fell the sportive aspiration (who knew
that "most enthusiastic" wasn't something to boast
about?).
|
|
|
And then my chemistry professor announced that I was
unfathomably incompetent, thus slaying the countryside
veterinary practice more or less on the spot.
They say that there is a book in everyone, which is
lovely and I wish you all nothing but luck. Only you
see, I have several. But alas, still no agent, two-book
deal, or fat advance. If the mountain won't come to
Addie, then Addie will just have to make his own. Enter
Blurb
stage left, where one can easily design an all-singing,
colour, soft or hardback opus, print it, and sell copies,
should one choose, at a pretty decent mark-up.

|
So, even if those foolish publishers never lap
me up, one day, far in the future, I shall at
least have the chance of being reprinted by Persophone,
those artisanal purveyors of "rediscovered" out
of print classics. And everyone knows that posthumous
reverence is better than nothing. Except success,
of course. And an agent, two-book deal and a fat
advance.
