Insert Favourite Band Here (And Now) |
|
|
It's
probably because of the nature of what we
do here, but the way that the gig scene
functions has always seemed a touch inefficient.
A band picks a venue (or the venue picks
the band) and only after all of the dates
are set in stone do you, the humble, cash-bearing
audience come into the equation.
|
|
|
And
without institutions like us to keep an eye on
what's happening (forgive the trumpet-blowing),
it's thus irritatingly easy to miss out on some
cracking gigs.
You'd think that, since you're ultimately paying for
everything anyway, there might be a fractionally
more democratic process. TV and radio offer 'on
demand' services, and, while a CD is one thing,
even with the finest sound system available, it
will never come anywhere close to seeing your
favourite band let loose live.

Enter
Owngig
to lead the revolution. You say who, where,
and how much, and they work to make it realistically
happen. Okay, so the second most requested
gig on the site might be from The King himself.
But with enough money, surely anything's
possible. This may be democracy in action.
But it's capitalist democracy, and damn
do we love it!
